On Monday, April 8, 2024, the ANIMA PLUS association, in cooperation with the Digital Arts degree program at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria, officially opened the traveling exhibition FLIPT! on Tour at the Hagenberg campus. At the heart of the exhibition: the analog medium of the flipbook – small in format but powerful in expression, diversity, and artistic potential.
A large number of visitors – including students, faculty members, and guests from the creative industry – gathered for the vernissage in the foyer of the FH2 building. The exhibition was opened with inspiring speeches by Vice Dean Tanja Jadin, Jürgen Hagler (Head of the Digital Arts program and chairman of ANIMA PLUS), and Reinhold Bidner, one of the co-founders of FLIPT!.
Die gezeigten Werke umfassen rund 40 analoge Mini-Animationen – von handgezeichneten Erzählungen über KI-generierte Clips bis hin zu experimentellen und abstrakten Bewegungsstudien. Besonders hervorzuheben ist die Beteiligung von Studierenden des Studiengangs Digital Arts, die mit aktuellen Arbeiten vertreten sind und somit den Bogen von klassischen Techniken zu modernen, digitalen Zugängen spannen.
The exhibition features around 40 analog mini-animations – ranging from hand-drawn narratives and AI-generated clips to experimental and abstract motion studies. Particularly noteworthy is the contribution of students from the Digital Arts program, who present current works that bridge the gap between traditional techniques and contemporary digital approaches.
The exhibition impressively demonstrates how art, technology, and analog media can merge into a fascinating symbiosis. FLIPT! quite literally makes animation “tangible” – each individual work invites viewers to engage directly and rediscover the medium in a new way.
The exhibition is open until May 16, 2024!
